BRB I’m Going to China
"Good night sweet heart, I'll see you in the morning. I'm going to China."
(laughing) "Daddy, you're just going to the office."
This is a conversation that my daughter and I have several nights a week before I "travel" to China teach.
Everyone can use some extra cash, especially if you are a teacher. Teachers are highly adaptable creatures, shape shifting seamlessly from one job to the other. Since I have started teaching 12 years ago, I have moonlighted as a/an: soccer/basketball/softball coach, salesman, online teacher, lawn technician (mowed lawns), dog sitter, house sitter, and a digital imager. The last one was a doozy, I drove to court houses around my state and took pictures of land/lease documents ALL DAY LONG.
For some school teachers, summers are for sunbathing and swimming pools, but for many the summer is for the side hustle.
It is well known and oft talked about that teachers don't make much money. This is not the case for me, however, I'd love to tell you otherwise but I simply can't. I drive a '99 Lexus, it screams "Momma I made it!"
My wife and I are teachers with two kids at home and our budget has been getting tighter and tighter each month. So I started to look into some other ways to make some money for our family, but I didn't want to give up time with my family to do it. It was going to be a tough find.
Make $400 a Month and Only Work 1 Hour a Day
Then, one night I stumbled onto VIPKID. An ad read "Make $400 a month while teaching English online to kids in China for 1 hour a day." It sounded too good to be true. Like most ads in Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace (if you can remember your login from 15 years ago) they make glorious claims but the results typically aren't attainable. So, I started doing some research into the company and I was surprised to see it was legitimate. I went through the interview process and was hired after teaching a couple mock classes with them and have loved the job. For our family, it has been the perfect job.
Over the past year while working for this company, I have made as little as $114 in a month and as much as $2200. I choose my hours and then students book my classes. Each class is 25 minutes long and you get paid $7-$11 per class depending on how your first interview goes. (I will happily help you with this, if it sounds like a good fit for you). That works out to $14-22 dollars an hour, plus incentives. You get $1 extra for finishing the class and $1 extra for each class that you teach once you reach 43 classes, which is very easy to do!
Work While Your Kids Sleep
This job has allowed me to work while my kids are asleep! I can eat breakfast with them in the morning and put them to bed every night. I set up a little "classroom" in our house that I teach from in the mornings and evenings. I wake up before my kids do and teach for an hour or 2 (or 4 if it's the summer) and then teach for an hour or so after I put them to bed at night. I love this job and the flexibility it provides. If I don't want to work, I don't open up classes. If we have a big expense coming up, then I work a little more. It has been the perfect job for me! The company is growing rapidly and looking to expand with more teachers. Currently there are 20,000+ teachers around the world that have joined in. They have over 500,000 registered students and 200,000 paying students.
What are the qualifications ?
#1 You need to be a Native English Speaker. If you have made it this far, you can probably check that one off the list.
#2 You need a bachelors degree
#3 Teaching Experience with children. This can be just about anything. I have teachers whose experience was as a : classroom teacher, camp counselor, Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, YMCA worker, librarian, anything where you have worked with kids
That's it! If you meet those then you are eligible to teach and go on to the interview process.
Email me here if you have any questions. I will happily help you through the process!
I have helped several teachers through the process and I will be happy to help you too! I do get a small referral bonus for bringing teachers into the program, but only if you end up teaching for the company. It only helps me if I help you! So let's get started today!
