Dear Future Me
At the end of last school year, the English teacher I work with had her students write letters of appreciation to teachers. I received several notes from students who write some very kind things about me and my class. My group last year was one of the most challenging groups I had, but I feel like I have found myself feeling a little sad about not having them around this year.
They made me feel really good with just a few words.
So, this year I have decided that we are going to write notes of appreciation every week. I’m writing them too. Every Friday, we are going to stop what we’re doing and take a few minutes to think about someone in our lives and write them a note. Most weeks I will give them flexibility. They can write and say thank you, happy birthday, I appreciate you, whatever it may be. The only thing I’m going to ask is that it is positive. It must be a note that they would like to receive someone else.
Dear Future Me
Our first day is approaching it just so happens to be on a Friday. So, we are going to write our first note to ourselves. I’m doing it too. I’m going to encourage them to write about their feelings on the first day of school, share their thoughts, hopes, and think about what would make this year the best year yet? Then I’m going to put them in an envelope and seal them up. At the end of the year, we will get them out and look and write a response to ourselves and explain how the year went. I’m really looking forward to it!
You can do it with a simple sheet of paper or use some of my historical cards (you can get them here).
